Best Barrel Saunas of 2026, by Size and Budget

How we make money: some links on this page are affiliate links (marked "partner link"), so we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. Local pros may pay us for quote requests. Neither changes what we write. Full disclosure.

There is no single best barrel sauna, only the best fit for your yard, your panel and your budget. We built this shortlist from manufacturer spec sheets, dealer listings, heater manuals and owner threads, then checked prices on the seller's own page. We haven't sat in these saunas ourselves; where a fact comes from a third party, we say so.

Best overall for 2–4 people: Almost Heaven Pinnacle

Best overall

Almost Heaven Pinnacle 4-Person Barrel Sauna, 6×6 ft

The Pinnacle is the barrel most buyers start with for a reason. Almost Heaven has been building saunas in West Virginia's Greenbrier Valley for over 40 years (per its dealer Select Saunas), now under the "Almost Heaven by Harvia" name, and the standard heater is a Harvia. The 6×6 ft barrel is 72 in wide, 72 in deep and 77 in tall outside, with 71×64×71 in inside and two facing 64-in benches. Staves are 1⅜-in ball-and-socket lumber held by stainless steel bands, sitting on plastic cradles that keep the wood off the ground.

Power: 6 kW Harvia KIP60B heater, 240V, 30 A, hardwired, plus a 110V/15 A plug-in for the light. Shipping: 715 lb on one pallet, curbside by LTL freight. Warranty (per Select's listing): limited lifetime on the sauna room, 5-year on heater components and 1 year on heating elements.

Why it's on the list
  • Lowest-risk electrical job: 30 A
  • Long warranty on the room; big dealer network
  • Four real prices to compare (see below)
Watch out for
  • 69 in tall inside at the center; most adults can't stand
  • Owners report bands needing re-tightening as the wood settles
  • Warranty does not transfer to a second-hand buyer

Prices we found: $5,303 at Select Saunas (Oct 19), $5,804 at My Sauna World and $6,002 at The Sauna Place (Oct 18, via SaunaCosts), and $6,060 on almostheaven.com for the base glass-door, KIP-dial configuration (Oct 19). Configurations can differ between sellers.

Best value for bigger groups: Redwood Outdoors 6-Person Barrel

Best value per seat

Redwood Outdoors Barrel Outdoor Sauna – 6 Person

Redwood Outdoors, based in Kent, Washington, builds its barrels from heat-treated hemlock sourced from Canada, with FSC certification. The 6-person barrel lists exterior dimensions of 71 in L × 72¾ in W × 76½ in H, nearly the same footprint as the Pinnacle, and seats "4–6 people depending on the seating arrangement." It ships in a wooden crate and weighs 900 lb.

Power: 6 kW Harvia KIP standard (30 A at 240V), with 8 kW KIP (40 A), Harvia Spirit and 9 kW Homecraft upgrades. Included: rocks, backrests, light fixture and asphalt shingles for the top. Warranty: 1-year limited on the sauna; Harvia heaters 1 year on elements and 5 years on other components.

Why it's on the list
  • $5,549 on sale (regular $6,299) on Oct 19
  • Shingles and backrests included
  • Porch version $6,499; 8-person $6,899
Watch out for
  • 1-year sauna warranty vs lifetime from Almost Heaven
  • "6-person" on a 6-ft-deep barrel is snug

Best for headroom and two-level benches: Redwood Extra-Wide

Most headroom

Redwood Outdoors Extra-Wide Outdoor Barrel Sauna – 6 Person

The most common complaint about barrels is low benches: hot air pools near the ceiling while you sit in the cooler middle. Redwood's Extra-Wide answers that with a 7-ft diameter and two-level seating, so you can move between a hotter upper bench and a cooler lower one. It ships with a 6 kW Harvia KIP and KIP Guard, with 8 kW options. A larger room is more air to heat, so consider the 8 kW upgrade (and a 40 A circuit) if you live somewhere cold.

Price: $7,799 on sale (regular $8,299) on Oct 19; $8,499 with a porch. Same 1-year sauna warranty as the rest of the range.

Best low-cost Almost Heaven: Costco's Arcadia 2-Person

Budget pick

Almost Heaven Arcadia 2-Person Outdoor Barrel (Costco)

Costco sells Almost Heaven barrels online under its own model names. According to Heat & Plunge's October 9 check, the Arcadia 2-person was $3,499.99 with a 6 kW Harvia heater on a 30 A breaker, about 75 × 39 × 75 in inside and 762 lb. That's the same heater and circuit as Almost Heaven's own Salem 2-person barrel, for less. The trade-offs: fewer door/window/heater options, curbside delivery, and warranty terms that weren't on the Costco product pages Heat & Plunge read, so ask Costco before you order.

Cheapest barrel we found: Backyard Discovery Paxton 2–4

Lowest price

Backyard Discovery Paxton 2–4 Person Barrel Sauna

Per the same October 9 third-party check, Sam's Club listed the Paxton 2–4 with a glass door at $2,999, versus $3,499 on Backyard Discovery's site. The catch is electrical: its 9 kW PrairieFire heater needs a dedicated 240V, 50 A circuit, one size up from the 30 A circuits most 6 kW barrels use, which can mean heavier wire and less panel headroom. Backyard Discovery lists a 5-year comprehensive warranty on its site; confirm it applies to a Sam's Club purchase. Sam's Club reviewers report 8–10 hours of assembly.

Thickest walls: SaunaLife Ergo E7G

Premium build

SaunaLife Ergo Series E7G

SaunaLife builds its barrels from thermally treated spruce. The E7G has the thickest staves of any barrel in Heat & Plunge's comparison at 1.65 in, an interior about 77 × 63 in, and a glass front. It is sold without a heater (pair it with an 8 kW unit on a 40 A circuit, per that comparison), and it was $7,140 at Native Sauna on October 9. SaunaLife's warranty is listed inconsistently (a warranty PDF and a product page disagree), so get the terms in writing from the dealer.

Eastern white cedar option: Dundalk LeisureCraft Harmony

Canadian-made

Dundalk LeisureCraft Harmony 4-Person (CTC22W)

Dundalk LeisureCraft is a Canadian manufacturer that sells through dealers, with a red cedar line and the Canadian Timber eastern white cedar line. The Harmony 4-person was $5,946 at Sun Valley Saunas with a 6 kW heater on 30 A (Oct 9, third-party). Its 6-person Tranquility was $6,483 with a 9 kW heater and weighs about 1,300 lb, which in Heat & Plunge's words needs a forklift or crane to unload. One owner report describes a delivery with many open knots, so inspect the wood at delivery.

How to choose: four questions before you buy

  1. How far is the spot from your electrical panel, and does the panel have room? This drives the wiring bill more than the sauna does. A 30 A heater is the easiest job; 50 A can mean heavier wire or a subpanel. See our wiring guide.
  2. How many people, really? Divide interior depth by people per bench. Four adults in a 6-ft-deep barrel is comfortable; six is cozy.
  3. How cold are your winters? Harvia's KIP manual expects 170°F in 45–60 minutes, longer in cold weather; owners report up to 90 minutes on the coldest days. Bigger rooms want bigger heaters.
  4. Can you take a 700–1,300 lb crate at the curb? Delivery is curbside. Line up helpers or a pro assembler. Our cost calculator includes optional pro assembly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best barrel sauna for most people?

For a household of two to four, the Almost Heaven Pinnacle is the safest default: a 6×6 ft western red cedar barrel with a 6 kW Harvia heater on a 30-amp circuit, a limited lifetime warranty on the sauna room, and the widest dealer network. The lowest price we found was $5,303 at Select Saunas (October 19, 2026).

What is the cheapest decent barrel sauna?

Club stores are cheapest. A third-party price check on October 9, 2026 found the Backyard Discovery Paxton 2–4 person at $2,999 at Sam's Club and Costco's Almost Heaven Arcadia 2-person at $3,499.99. The Paxton's 9 kW heater needs a 50-amp circuit, which can raise the wiring bill.

Cedar, hemlock or thermo-wood?

Almost Heaven uses western red cedar, Redwood Outdoors uses heat-treated hemlock, SaunaLife uses thermally treated spruce, and Dundalk sells red and eastern white cedar lines. Heat-treated wood is marketed as more dimensionally stable; we have not found independent data comparing barrel longevity by species, so weigh warranty and dealer support more heavily.

How many people really fit in a "6-person" barrel?

Fewer than the label suggests. Bench length equals the barrel's interior depth, so divide that by the people per side. A 6-ft-deep barrel gives three people on a side roughly 21 in each. Buy one size up from your household if you want room to recline.
