Redwood Outdoors Barrel Sauna Review

How we make money: some links on this page are affiliate links (marked "partner link"), so we may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. Local pros may pay us for quote requests. Neither changes what we write. Full disclosure.

Verdict: Redwood Outdoors offers more seats and more included extras for the money than Almost Heaven, plus the only extra-wide, two-level-bench barrel in our coverage. The catch is the warranty: 1 year on the sauna, against Almost Heaven's limited lifetime. If headroom or group size matters more than warranty length, Redwood belongs on your shortlist. Research-based: compiled from Redwood's product pages and public information; we haven't used these saunas.

What you get

Heat-treated hemlock instead of cedar

Redwood builds from Canadian hemlock that's been heat-treated, which it says makes the wood more durable and better able to withstand the outdoors with minimal maintenance. Thermally modified woods are generally marketed as more dimensionally stable than untreated wood. We haven't found independent data comparing barrel lifespan by wood type, so treat that as the maker's claim.

Extra-Wide: the headroom answer

The Extra-Wide models have a 7-ft diameter and two-level seating, so you can move between a hotter upper bench and a cooler lower one. That directly addresses the most common barrel complaint (benches sitting below the hottest air). The standard heater is still 6 kW; Redwood offers 8 kW KIP upgrades, worth considering in cold climates given the larger volume.

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths
  • Lower price per seat than comparable Almost Heaven barrels
  • Shingles, backrests and light included
  • Two-level benches on Extra-Wide models
  • Wide heater menu (KIP, Spirit, Homecraft)
  • FSC-certified wood; Affirm financing
Weaknesses
  • 1-year limited warranty on the sauna
  • Fewer third-party sellers, so less room to shop price
  • 900 lb crate for the 6-person; plan the move from curb to yard
  • "6-person" on a ~6-ft-deep barrel is snug

Redwood Outdoors vs Almost Heaven

Same footprint, different trade-offs. The Redwood 6-person ($5,549) and Almost Heaven Pinnacle ($5,303–$6,060) both sit on about 6×6 ft and both ship with a 6 kW Harvia KIP on a 30 A circuit. Redwood rates its barrel for 4–6 people and includes shingles; Almost Heaven rates the Pinnacle for 4 and backs the room with a limited lifetime warranty. See the full three-way comparison.

Installed cost

Kit $5,549 + 30 A circuit (~$500–$2,700 typical) + pad ($26–$2,500) + permits ($50–$350) ≈ $6,100–$11,100 before optional pro assembly. Calculate yours.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Redwood Outdoors saunas made?

Redwood Outdoors is based in Kent, Washington. Its product pages say the barrels are built from heat-treated hemlock sourced from Canada, with FSC certification (FSC-C210325). We did not find a statement of where final manufacturing takes place.

What warranty does Redwood Outdoors offer?

Its product pages state a 1-year limited warranty on saunas. Harvia heaters carry 1 year on heating elements and 5 years on other components for residential use; Homecraft heaters have their own terms. Almost Heaven, by comparison, offers a limited lifetime warranty on the sauna room.

Is Redwood Outdoors cheaper than Almost Heaven?

Per seat, often. Redwood's 6-person barrel was $5,549 on October 19, 2026, with nearly the same footprint as Almost Heaven's 4-person Pinnacle ($5,303–$6,060). The trade is the shorter warranty and different wood.

Does Redwood Outdoors offer financing?

Yes. Its site offers Affirm financing, with rates from 0–36% APR subject to an eligibility check.
